Long Bio

Jared Andrews has spent the better part of the last two decades teaching, writing and competing in the marching arts activity. He started his world class marching career at the Cadets (’02, ‘03, ‘04) where the group received the DCI Fred Sanford award for high percussion in 2002 and 2003. Knowing he needed to diversify his education, he moved to California to age out and tour Europe with the Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps in 2005.

In 2006 Jared worked with John Mapes at Esperanza Drum and Bugle Corps from San Diego, which eventually led to his job with the world renowned Riverside Community College starting in 2006. In 2007 Jared worked with the Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps as well as the legendary Mission Viejo High School under the direction of Mike Jackson and Jim Wunderlich. The Mission percussion section won high percussion in WBA and a gold and silver medal in 2007 and 2008, respectively, in WGI Scholastic world class. In the summer of 2008 Jared worked as a drum set player at Sea World San Diego for the summer ‘Riptide’ show. In 2009 he went to Shinjuku (Japan) to study Japanese for the summer. The following summer he began a 7-year working relationship with the Kamehameha High School in Oahu (Hawaii) where he served as a clinician and battery arranger.

In 2010 Jared took over for RCC as the Battery Caption head and in 2012 he began arranging for the group. RCC is well know for their work on American Pie, the Macy’s Day Parades, the Rose Parades, BOA exhibition invitations and more—a truly Hollywood band. The RCC WGI indoor drumline won 3 gold medals and 5 silver medals between 2007 and 2017, the 11 years Jared was with the group.

Returning from working at Universal Studios Japan in Osaka in the fall of 2011, Jared was asked to return to the Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps to serve on percussion staff, which he did from 2012 through 2017. While he was with the Blue Devils, the group won 4 DCI world titles, 3 of them undefeated, and 2 Fred Sanford Awards for high percussion. Also at the Blue Devils he was able to serve as a Sytem Blue clinician which took him to Japan, Malaysia, and China. In 2017 the Blue Devil drum line was invited to PASIC for a clinic.

In 2018 Jared was the arranger for the Oregon Crusaders battery alongside Dark Sky founder Seth Woodard.

During the pandemic, now back in Kentucky, Jared reconnected with his love for playing and began a daily dedication to playing the drum set. Documenting his journey through content and education has led to the creation of this website as well as a host of other amazing opportunities.

After the pandemic, Jared reconnected with long-time friend Tim Jackson and starting working with the world class indoor group Rhythm X, starting in 2022. That same summer he served as a battery percussion consultant for the Madison Scouts.

Jared is currently the Battery Caption Supervisor at the Carolina Crown, an amazing opportunity to work with Mike Jackson and Kevin Shah, both founders of the WGI world class indoor group Broken City Percussion. Jared is the Director of Percussion at Eastern High School in Kentucky and also devotes some of his time to working with the Lafayette High School band program in Lexington, KY.

Currently pursuing his Master’s in Jazz performance, Jared has really taken his education far beyond the marching arts activity, taking in music holistically and nurturing his love for it. He loves playing jazz in its various forms, funk, pop and rock. Jared continues to post short clips of covers and drum set content on his Instagram and YouTube pages. This has led to his sponsorships with companies like Zildjian, Vic Firth, and Evans, whose attention to his craft and continued support has allowed him to push farther into his dreams.
